We are not scared of the cold!


The wet, windy and cold weather is sure to bring the flu and cold season but we have found our way to fight back.


When my son was 10 days old he caught a cold. We spent weeks trying to fight it and then a few days later he had another cold and then another. We were so tired of this, and I cannot even imagine how difficult this was for him! We became obsessive adults (wipe down the shopping cart like crazy, wash my hands numerous times a day and gulp down our immune-boosting food and drinks! Yet no matter what we did, it attacked us!


I was amidst learning about herbal remedies for skincare and I started experimenting using it out for our health too! After so many trials we now have a fool-proof magic potion that has kept my kids away from any colds for 4 years. Touch wood!!


Every Sunday I make a big jar of this and I have a tablespoon (Kids = 1 teaspoon) of this every morning. This recipe has helped so many people and I wanted to share this with you today.



HOME REMEDY for colds and flu!


Recipe: Toddy for 1 person:


1 tsp Turmeric Powder

1/4 tsp Black Pepper powder

1/4 tsp Ginger Juice

1/4 tsp Cinnamon Powder

3 tbsp Raw Local Honey / Agave

2 tbsp Lemon Juice (fresh)

3 tbsp Organic Apple Cider Vinegar


Method:

Mix all ingredients and make a paste. Adjust honey to taste or replace with Agave/ Coconut syrup if Vegan!


Here are some of the benefits of each ingredient:


Turmeric and Black pepper:

Turmeric has a compound called curcumin and black pepper has a compound called piperine. When you ingest these two spices together, piperine, which inhibits the metabolic breakdown of turmeric compounds in the gut and the liver increases absorption of curcurmin in the body by up to 2,000%. Curcumin has been associated with numerous health benefits including anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant, protecting healthy cells from free radicals which can cause damage.


Ginger:

Helps you sweat out the toxins in your body, which is helpful when you are full on with a cold or flu. Ginger is also helpful for settling upset stomachs, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and cold sweats.


Cinnamon:

Cinnamon contains anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and antioxidant properties. Gives the toddy the warm sweetness.


Raw local honey:

Honey is thick and soft meaning it has a soothing effect on irritated throats. Helps reduce night time coughing and improve sleep. The natural sweetness of honey also balances the tartness of the Vinegar, lemon and the spices!


Lemon:

High in vitamin C, which keeps the immune system strong and neutralizes the free radicals in your body. This reduces the inflammation and swelling.


Apple Cider Vinegar:

The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar kills the environment for the germs to multiply. Most germs can’t survive in the acidic environment vinegar creates. It also contains potassium, which thins mucus and reduces nasal congestion.


We just cant help but get carried away and tell you this too : Apple cider vinegar makes a great natural toner that can act as a natural home remedy for acne and leaves skin looking healthier. Its antibacterial properties help keep acne under control, and the malic and lactic acids found in apple cider vinegar soften and exfoliate skin, reduce red spots, and balance the pH of your skin.
